Join fellow singers in a full-day workshop, culminating in a performance of highlights from Mendelssohn's epic Elijah.
This is your chance to step into the world of one of the most dramatic choral works ever written: Felix Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
In the morning workshop, Edinburgh Festival Chorus Director James Grossmith will lead you through the score from the piano. These sessions will help you uncover the piece's sweeping melodies and thrilling harmonies. In the afternoon, you will join forces with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, conducted by Thomas Søndergård, to further rehearse this extraordinary oratorio.
The day culminates in a performance of highlights (no audience) of the full work with live orchestra, filling Usher Hall with the sound of your collective voices.
This all-day workshop (10am–5pm) is for singers who can read music. If you have a good musical ear and have some ability to follow along with sheet music, we would also like to hear from you.
For those of you without formal singing experience, we'd love to see you at The Big Singalong in Princes Street Gardens.
Please note: we have reached capacity for alto voices. Altos are still encouraged to complete the application form, you will be placed on a waiting list and contacted if a space becomes available.
